Chapter One

“What happened exactly?” Michelle asked as she, along with her colleague Janine made their way to the stage. “ A light fell from the rigging on to my mates head,” a soft Irish accent said. “What’s his name?” Janine asked. “Shane, Shane Filan” He said. “Ok. Shane, Shane can you hear me?”  She asked. “Yes.” He replied, and opened his eyes. “Hi. My name is Michelle Thompson and this is Janine Bell. We’re paramedics. How do you feel?” “Alright, I guess,” “Right, well can you sit up for me?” Shane sat up and Janine began to examine the injury to his head. “Janine, could you hand me the saline solution and cotton wool?” “Here you go,” “Thanks.” She said as Janine left her to talk to Shane’s mate.

“Hi, My names Kian and this is Nicky, Bryan and Mark. I called the ambulance. Is he going to be alright?” “Yeah, he should be fine. We’ll need to take him into hospital though, for overnight observation. Its routine with blows to the head so there is no need to worry, Ok? Well I’ll just go and get the stretcher and we’ll be on our way with your mate. By the way, do you want the number of the hospital that we’ll be taking him to?”   “Yeah, better have it, just in case Louis or Ronan want to know where he is and what’s happened to him.” “Here,” Janine said, as he handed Kian a piece of paper with the number of the hospital on it.

“Can I ask you a question?” Shane said as Michelle tried to clean the wound to his head.

“Yes, but it depends on what the question is.” She replied. “ Where are you from? It’s just that I don’t recognise your accent. ” “ I’m from Belfast. “ What are you doing working in Dublin when you’re from Belfast?” “ Is this 20 questions or something?” “Sorry” Shane said apologetically. “ Don’t worry about it. I was only joking. Anyway, here’s Janine with the stretcher.” “What?”  “The stretcher to take you on to the ambulance and then into the hospital. There’s no need to worry.” “I’m not worried, it’s just that I don’t see why I need to go into hospital when all I have is a bang to the head.” “ It’s routine.” said Janine as he took the pillow off the stretcher so that Shane could get on to it.

Shane got on to the stretcher and they began to leave the stage. Kian then asks, “Can one of us come with you?” “ Yeah, sure.” Janine replied. “ I’ll go.” said a tall dark haired young man. “ My names Mark, by the way.” “ I’m Michelle and this is Janine.” And with that they left the building and got into the ambulance.

      Chapter Two.

When they arrived at the hospital, they took Shane into the A&E department to be seen by one of the doctors on duty. While they were waiting for their next call, Michelle sat and chatted with Mark. “ So, what are you doing here in Dublin when you come from Belfast the pay?” “Is that why? I thought you were working in Ireland because you had family over here.” “That as well.” “Oh. Listen, Shane is going to be alright isn’t he?” “Yeah, He’ll be fine.”

Suddenly a call comes through. “ Well, I’d better be going.”  “Michelle,” “Yes?” “Thank you. For what you did today.” “ What did I do?” “ You saved Shane’s life.” “ I’d hardly call cleaning a wound saving someone’s life.” “Yeah, well, thank you. Listen, would you like to go for a drink sometime with myself, Kian, Bryan, Nicky and Shane when he gets out of here? Just to say thank you, that’s all.” “Ok, when and where?” “ How’s about tomorrow night at around 7 outside The Point?” “Yeah, fine. Here’s my mobile number, call me if you break a microphone or something and I’ll be straight round to save it’s life.” “Ha, ha. Very funny.” “See ya tomorrow night.” Michelle said. “See ya”.

And with that Mark went into Shane’s cubicle to see how he was, and Michelle went out to the ambulance to attend to the call.

                                    Chapter Three.

The next night, Michelle is standing outside “The Point” getting absolutely freezing cold. When suddenly she hears a soft Irish accent say, “Michelle, you’re here.” “Hi.” She replied as she turned to see Kian, Nicky, Bryan, Mark and Shane walking towards her. “ Of course I’m here, where did you think I’d go?” “Well, being a paramedic, we thought you might be a bit to busy to come out for a drink with five lads like us.” Nicky replied.  “What do you mean like us?”   She asked. “ I just meant that we’re famous and you might not enjoy it if we were swamped by fans whilst out in the pub that’s all.”       “Right,” She said a bit confused. “Ok, well shall we put our plates of meat to the ground, walk down the frog an’ toad and see where it gets us?” “Excuse me?” replied Michelle. “Ha ha ha, what I meant was shall we put our feet to the ground and walk down the road. Honestly.” And they started walking.

“How’s your head?” Michelle asked Shane as they walked down the road, “Oh, its fine.” “Good.” She replied. “ Listen,” Shane says, dropping back from the lads, “Have you ever considered a job change?” “ Why?” “ Well, we need a medical supervisor for our tour in a couple of months time, would you be interested?” “Wow.” “What?” “Nothing. It’s just, well, here I am, a 20-year-old paramedic just beginning my career and your asking me if I would be interested in a job I don’t even know about.” “ I’ll take that as a no then.” “No, don’t, of course I’m interested.” “Great. That’s settled then.” Shane say’s as he enters the pub holding the door open for her. “I’ll phone Louis and tell him the good news.” “Ok, well, what do you want to drink?” Michelle asks the lads while Shane is on his mobile to Louis. “Michelle,” “Yes?” She replied. “Louis wants to talk to you.” “Oh, ok, thanks” She said as Shane handed her the phone. “Hello?” “Hi, is that Michelle Thompson?” “Speaking.” “ Hi, Louis Walsh here. Anyway, Shane tells me that you might be interested in being the medical supervisor on the lads forthcoming tour?” “Yes, that’s right.” “Right, well what are you qualifications?” “I’m an A grade paramedic.” “Right, so you’re one of the best as far as paramedics go, are you?” “Yes, That’s right.” “Ok, well the job’s there if you want it.” “Really?” She asked, surprised. “Yes”. “Well, ok, um, I’ll hand in my notice and get in touch with you, alright?” “Yeah, See ya.” “Bye.” She gave the phone back to Shane and said, “ Well lads, you’re looking at your new medical supervisor!”  “Brilliant!” Mark replied.

Once the lads had got their drinks they all sat down and began to chat. “ So Michelle, tell us about yourself.” Nicky said. “ Well, what do you want to know?” Janine asked “ Well just everything, really.” Mark added. “Well, I originally come from the South Belfast. I’m 20-years-old, both my parents died in a car crash when I was sixteen.” “ Sorry about your parents,” Nicky said. “That was why I moved to Dublin, to live with my Aunt. I used to attend a dance school near where I lived.” “You went to dancing school?” Bryan asked. “Yeah, I had just completed my elementary exam.” “Elementary exam?” Bryan asked again. “Passing an elementary exam means that you are of the highest standard within ballet, and you can do point work, so to speak.” “Oh, I get you now.” Said Bryan. They continue to talk until about 10pm when Janine says, “Sorry guys, I need to go, I have to be up at 4.30am.” “Oh well, it was nice meeting you. See ya soon, yeah?” Said Mark. “Yeah, see ya soon.” And with that they leave, not to meet until a couple of weeks later…

                                                Chapter Four.

A month or so later, Michelle’s at Wembley Arena in London, on the tour as medical supervisor. “Right, Shane, could I have a word with you?” She asked. “Yeah, sure, I’ll be back in a minute lads, ok?” “Yeah, fine, whatever.” Says Bryan. They leave the stage where the lads are doing a sound check and go into one of the dressing rooms backstage. “What is it?” “Well, I’ve just had a look at your files and it says that you suffer from Asthma.” “Yeah, that’s right why?” “ I was just wondering how you were feeling, that’s all. Like, does your chest feel tight at all? ” “ Oh, I feel fine. How do you feel?” “ What do you mean?” she asked defensively. “ You look a bit pale that’s all.” “I do?” “Yeah. Are you sure you’re ok?” “ No, not really.” She said, beginning to cry. “It’s, well, I’ve just had a call from a friend of the family to say that my Grandmother has died.” “Oh Michelle I’m so sorry.” He says, sighing. “Come here.” And Shane opens his arms to comfort her. “How old was she?” Shane asks inquisitively. “Eighty nine.” She answered. And Shane continued to comfort her.

After the crying had subsided, Shane asked, “Michelle,” “Yes,” she replied, “Just out of curiosity, do you believe in love at first sight?” “Yes, Yes, I do. Why?” “Because, well, when I first saw you, you looked gorgeous, just like an angel and well, you know the rest.” “Yes, yes I do. Really?” “Yes, really.”  Then Shane leant forward and they kissed. Warm, intense, soft and deep.  Suddenly there was a knock on the door. Mark comes in and says, “ Shane, we need you for the final sound check.” “ Ok, I’ll be right there.” Then Mark leaves the room, and Shane says to Michelle, “Meet me outside the stage entrance after the show. I’ve got something to tell you.” “Yes, I will. I promise.” And with that, Shane leaves the room.

Outside the stage entrance…

“Hi. You’re here” Said Shane. “ Yes, of course I’m here. What did you want to tell me?” Michelle asks. “That I’m not letting you go now that I’ve found you.” And they go for a walk around Wembley. Before going back to the hotel to join the rest of the lads for a drink.
